Welcome

Welcome to my world.

W/b 20 September

Trying to work. Not much luck concentrating. Took Adam to Karate on Monday from Ann-Marie's. Got home at about 8pm.

Tuesday wasn't much better, really.

Wednesday was ok. Met up with HR and my line manager. Got some stuff sorted - moving me towards other subjects (ICT and Maths)which is good in a way, but I am a science teacher at heart - and got some things written down. Had a good session with MFL PGs even though none of them had been put on Blackboard (the Uni vle). Took hours to sort out mainly as we didn't have a list of usernames. Once I got the list of usernames it was easy. People seem to be clueless, running round like headless chickens.

Thursday was wasteful, couldn't concentrate. Met with Dennis in the afternoon and sorted out a bit of work for new module I have to teach starting next Tuesday, a module I know nothing about and have 2 working days to prepare. No pressure there, then.

Friday spent surfing, gathering materials for teaching. Cleaned my office. Played footie after work. Really enjoyed it. Scored a good goal, maybe should have scored more. Spent evening at Liz's. Nice meal, good conversation. Saw Josh and Olly. Watched the Expendables. Late home

Saturday took kids to gym, paid for it. Back home, Melissa came late. Back pain. Didn't want me to look after her. Made lamb curry for supper.

Sunday - busy doing jobs like washing floors, cleaning, washing up, sewing kids' clothes, ironing and cooking. Melissa arrived very late, nearly 2 pm. Helped Hari with Ucas statement. Take dogs out. Omelette for supper, with pancakes for dessert by Tara. Boys playing about. Got cross with them. Read to Adam.

Just chilling.......

Weekend

Saturday

Didn't sleep well. Lay in the sitting room. Melissa came charging in at nine. She had left her card/purse. Woke me up.

Picked up Adam from football at 11.30. Pottered around the house in the afternoon. They got back quite late. Hari had done shopping for me.

Went out for an Indian meal with some friends. Quite a nice evening. Had to drive Tara between houses as she had left her phone behind. Later at home with Hari.

Sunday

Melissa, Tara and Adam came at noon. Had sandwiches for lunch. Took Stella and Richard of a walk around the Limeworks in Settle. Quite interesting. Stella looked skinny, was in a bad way due to her cancer but tried to be cheerful. Got home at 4.40. Watched Chelsea play Blackpool in the pub. Adam insisted on having pork scratchings. Yeuchhh. Chelsea won 4 - 0. All goals in the first half. Bit boring.

Had pizza and garlic bread for supper. Kids all ok. Read to Adam. Ironed trousers..... Late to bed.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Not much to report really.

Did not have a good game of football...... Back home straightaway. Melissa had made chick peas. Kids had had a haircut. Adam and I watched Chelsea play. Melissa collected Adam at 9.00.

Thursday - Melissa and Hari went to Diet Club. Hari has put on some weight..... Tara had netball pracice after school and Adam had swimming. Melissa got some nice burgers from Booth's - very cheap..... Had Tara and Adam.

Friday - Melissa came over early in the am. Had coffee, then I drove Adam to school. Work was frustrating. Much better game of football. Was going to see Liz but she was busy getting kids off to uni and it was her mum's bday. Had a quick drink. Food at Melissa's, roast chicken and potato. Stella came over. Bad news of her cancer - it's in her spine.

Got home after 9.00. Bad night, couldn't sleep.

Tuesday 14 Setember Part 2

Stayed at work but did not achieve very much..... Spoke to N. who was very helpful and supportive.

Went home at 5.30' Almost forgot to pick Adam up from Jack's. Had to tack back.

Kids a bit fractious. Hari hit Adam for being annoying. Had to be firm with them. Tara being sulky. She is such a nice and pretty girl. Wish she would get over this phase. Feel like I am letting her down in some way. Breaks my heart.

Hari made chili for supper. Was nice. Then they pottered while I washed and cleaned. Took dogs for a quick walk after 8pm. Melissa got back at 8.30pm. Had a bite and a cup of tea. Left about 9.15. Tara had a bath, bit more human. Read to Adam. Read/watched TV. Late to bed.

Start of the new academic year

Feels very weird not being in with a PGCE Group. Would be nice to be teaching or doing tutorials with them. However, c'est la vie - or not!

Tuesday 14 Sept - Karate

Feel very broke. Any ideas for getting loadsamoney on a postcard to me.......

Yesterday (monday) evening, Adam and I went with older two kids to their Karate session. Welcomed back again by everybody. Asked to play piggy in the middle and groundball. Adam enjoyed it a lot; he is the youngest and wants to get started on Karate. Need to sort out logistics, though. I scored two goals. Nice to see I haven't lost my touch... Stayed and watched the session. They did basics, selfdefense, Kata and kihon kumite. Here is a link to an old webpage; needs to be updated. http://wrayscarecrows.homestead.com/KarateClub.html

Tara did not like us watching but.... She is a blue belt. Hari is a brown belt now. I used to be a brown belt when I stopped. Should take it up again, maybe.

Got back about 9.15pm. Spoke to Melissa on the phone. Read To Adam. Pottered around. Went to sleep late but crashed.

Drove Adam to school this morning. Found Hari had left his keys behind. Had to get that sorted. Got to work at 9.15am. Trying to get sorted. Emailing people. Not much to do for the moment. I am not supposed to be here.

Up to and Including the Weekend (11 / 12 Sept)

At Uni on Thursday. Looking at paperwork and plans for the coming year. Funny what people get worked up about. Lots of stressed staff, including me. Felt really tired at the end of the day.

Friday was a rest day. Tried sleeping late but no luck. Restless. Pottered round the house. Went to Uni to play football later. Had a good game. Nigel was back with Niall. Scored two good goals. Much better than lately. Talked with friends for a while. Went back to Melissa's. Gave me a nice curry. Left about 8.00ish; showered and watched telly.

Saturday - went for a walk around the Limeworks in Settle. Omelette and boiled potatoes for supper. Watched telly with Hari.

Sunday - Got up late. Melissa came over at 12pm. Took her to the station. Went shopping with kids - to Matalan, Sports Direct and ASDA. ASDA was a bit of a nightmare. Very busy as it was about to shut.

Had a curry and crumble. Crumble was a joint effort. Tasted Delicious.

Sorted out washing. Read to Adam.

Pottering about now. Watching TV and surfing/blogging.

Thursday 9 September 2010

Wednesday / Thursday

At work Wednesday. Struggle to get Adam up. Manage to take him in on time but am late for my meeting. Discussing undergraduate timetable and programme. Lot of work to do. Need to get more answers about my workload. Played football in the evening. At home, alone. Kids with Melissa.

Kids arrived early Thursday morning, as they needed to pick stuff up for school. Get Adam ready and drive him to school. Make meeting on time but only because it had been delayed. Look at all the new materials produced by the PGCE team, especially Anna, Liz, Christine and James. Various things had gone wrong - bits of the website had been neglected or rehashed, rooms had not been booked or had been changed without consultation - a tutor who needed an ICT room for her group was moved into a room with one PC for a group of 25..... Doesn't fill you with confidence.

Tuesday's Highlights

Adam tired out in the morning; difficult job getting him up. Got him to school and myself to work just in time.

Trying to sort out my timetable. Looks like undergrads mainly at the moment, perhaps some subject knowledge and SASP later. Might get offered some cluster coordination / school partnership stuff. Uni is cutting down on our hours for our modules. Linking it to number of students. We now have a quarter of the hours we used to have. How does that work for validated modules, then? Answers please on a postcard.......

Nice to see folks. Liz Lakin is off to pastures new; Dundee Uni, starting January. Good luck to her.

Pick adam up at 3.15pm. Take dogs for a walk around golf course and got rained on. Oh weel, have to do these things. Suffering is good for the soul, so they tell me.

Made lamb curry for supper. Nice, even if I say so myself. Going to watch England play later with Adam and try to sew trousers for kids......

Melissa is getting back at 8.30pm.

Tuesday Addendum

Watched England win the match. Few tense moments as they tried to self destruct but got away with it........ Excellent strike by the Swiss wonderkid. Sky player was ok, low quality, slow connection.

Melissa arrived back at 8.30, tired and hungry. Cheese on toast with Adam. Another late night for Adam. Hopefully we can get back on track. Made him wash his stink feet - LOL.

Monday 6 September 2010

Term starts here

Back to work properly at the end of holidays / sick leave.

Tried to sort out some outstanding stuff from last year. Silly me thinking it might have been dealt with while I was away.......

Trying to establish my commitments for next year. Seems like it will be more of the same old, same old.

Hari made chilli for supper. Took older two kids to Karate; watched them play groundball. Adam enjoyed it. Wants to start Karate soon.

On the computers in Wray Institute. Free broadband.

Bentham Agricultural Show Weekend September 2010

Went to the Bentham Agricultural Show On Saturday. Lots of things to see. Kids really enjoyed it. Wish we had been able to enter the big red dog for competitions but needed to be groomed properly and we had not had the time to get him into shape. Lots of people complimented him and told us he should have been entered. The joys of owning a pedigree dog! Actually, though he can be a pain in the neck, he behaved impeccably. He's growing on me, much to my family's amazement!

Had a really strong cup of tea, kind you can stand a spoon in......... Nice soup though.

Lots of competitions for people to enter. Photographs, paintings, handwriting, crafts, cooking, etc. Next year should definitely get kids to enter. May even win something.

Fabulous (is that the right word?) livestock and categories to enter them in. Waggiest tail..... best udder (or am I making that up????). Saw a friend's son showing a goat but his heart wasn't in it. Looked embarrassed. Wonderful sight of hounds running round the show field. Went over to the Birds of Prey stall; beautiful birds. Everybody fell in love with the American Kestrel, which was tiny.

Tara went off and spent time with her friends. Seemed to enjoy the day.

Adam (9) pretended to have a fit when he saw one of his teachers from school. Luckily she has a sense of humour. He fell in love with a vintage car. Offered the man 33 pounds, all he has in the world. Surprisingly the man turned him down. Then he looked at tractors and sat in the driver's seat. Only downside of the day there with him was that he wanted to spend money on idiotic games, with zero chance of winning....

Got home about 5. Cooked lentils and rice for supper!

Sunday was busy. Getting Melissa ready and set for her work in Newcastle. Drove her in at 1.00pm and then took the two younger kids to watch "Scott Pilgrim versus the world." at Vue in Lancaster. 10 people in the cinema... Shame really, quite a funny film. Nachos, followed by pasta for food. Read last of the Twilight Series of books. Keeping up with my daughter - that's my excuse....
